What's our goal for the ad?
Nov 25 2008, 1:46 PM EST
Off the top of my head, I'd say our goals are1) to let President Obama know that we are still interested in continuing the discussion with him 2) to let our members know "hey, we're still here", and (by pointing them to the web site) encourage them to get involved, and 3) to start recruiting new members What do others think? 9 out of 9 found this valuable. I have been working on voting machine issues and so have just returned to this site. Ad is an excellent idea and the I agree with the message. Where will this be run? The Washington Post?

We're thinking about both a cable TV ad via SaysMe (more at http://get-fisa-right.wetpaint.com/page/Inauguration+ad ) and potentially a newspaper ad for the Washington Post.

- awareness about the issue and specifically about Get FISA Right- getting others to join us as part of a large group of people working to hold Obama accountable to restore our civil liberties - letting President Obama know we want to continue our conversation with him 1 out of 1 found this valuable. A thought: Since the EFF and ACLU have historical audiences and we don't, but we need to represent someone.Am reading a excellent book about the great depression: The forgotten man by Amity Shales. How bout we represent the Forgotten Men/Women whose Civil Rights have been taken away without their involvement/knowing?? Do you find this valuable? |

"A thought: Since the EFF and ACLU have historical audiences and we don't, but we need to represent someone.I think this is a great idea. The strange bedfellows campaign utilized Rev. Yearwood to tie FISA to the civil rights movement by highlighting the illegal surveilance on Martin Luther King in robocalls issued in Steny Hoyer's district. They also had an ad in the Washington Post about this subject with a powerful graphic. Here's the link to a youtube podcast of Yearwood's ad: http://firedoglake.com/2008/06/25/robocalls-to-steny-hoyer-on-telecom-immunity/ And here's the link to their wapo ad: http://digbysblog.blogspot.com/2008/06/yo-steny-by-digby-this-ad-is-going-to.html I can't empahsize enough how important I think it is to continually tie the GFR effort to the larger civil rights movement. The CIA wiretaps led to an attempt to blackmail MLK into COMMITTING SUICIDE to avoid having them tell his wife about his infidelity. One more thing---the Strange Bedfellows campaign worked with Color of Change on this aspect of the campaign. They could be an integral partner if we are to do something similar, as their email lists would really help spread the word and generally emphasize the civil rights implications of warrantless wiretapping. 1 out of 1 found this valuable.
