Congressional candidates position statement on telecom immunity!
Jul 1 2008, 6:50 PM EDT | Post edited: Jul 1 2008, 6:50 PM EDT
I went to congressional candidate Darcey Burner's web site to contribute after hearing the news about her house fire. While I was there, I discovered a position paper authored by her and none other congressional candidates that sets a clear standard in opposition to the current FISA/immunity abomination (and the accompanying rationalizations.)

The section on "Restore Transparency and Accountability" includes this position statement: [P]rovide standing for civil actions for declaratory and injunctive relief to persons who refrain from electronic communications through fear of being subject to warrantless electronic
surveillance for foreign intelligence purposes.

These candidates are advocating the right to use civil actions as a remedy for the threat of illegal surveillance, in other words, the EXACT OPPOSITE of the position of the current FISA/immunity bill! Having such a clear position in writing makes me feel better, given the recent stampede of Democrats willing to support (or even advocating for) telecom immunity!

URL's apparently linkable on this wiki, but it should work if you copy and paste it into your browser:

I made a "Resource" page about this here:

(Or go to the "Resources" section of the menu in the upper left hand corner.)
