  • As an alternative to the above options, you can use the Cause Caller website to help you contact the Senator and his campaign by phone

  • Hand carry a copy of the "An open letter to Senator Obama" letter along with copies of the "Dear Senator Obama" E-Mails which are being set to the "Senator Obama - Please Vote NO on Telecom Immunity - Get FISA Right" mailer.

Help get the word out

• Tell all your friends and family about the "Get FISA Right" group on myBO. Ask them to join and to help get the word out. This is an important step. Our numbers, and the sheer breadth of the opposition to telco immunity and warrantless wiretapping, are our greatest strengths.

• If you've got a blog, write about it -- there's a list of some of the blog posts by group members on the main page. If you don't have a blog, it's easy to start one up on myBO: click on the "blog" tab on your page and follow the instructions.

• Help get the group more visible on social bookmark sites like digg, reddit, and stumbleupon.

• New! Follow Get FISA Right on Twitter.Receive key updates as ordinary folks lobby the Senate and hold the line against illegal wire-tapping.

• Contact Keith Olbermann, and ask him to mention the group -- and to rethink his position (read about the Olbermann saga here).

• Get involved with an event -- or forward the invites along to your friends in the area.
• Put into practice the action ideas and use the tools at the Peoples Campaign for the Constitution, www.constitutioncampaign.org

• If you're on Facebook, join the Facebook group -- and invite your friends. Facebook groups can grow very quickly, and it can be a great "feeder" to the group on myBO.
  

• New! Print out & post this flyer (PDF) that gives a summary of the issue and encourages readers to call Obama & state senators. You'll need to write in the contact info, unless you live in California or NJ, in which case you can download the pre-filled out versions. To request a flyer for another state, contact the designer.
  

• Find articles on-line about Barack Obama 'moving to the middle', FISA, telco immunity, both in traditional media and blogs and post links to this group with something like the following (HTML not used since many don't support HTML in comments):
  

Barack Obama promised to filibuster any bill that contained telecom immunity. A few short weeks after locking up the nomination, he has gone back on his promise and will now support a bill to give that immunity, as well as severely undermining the 4th amendment.

A group has been started on Mr. Obama's own campaign site, with the aim of holding Mr. Obama accountable and protecting the constitution and the 4th amendment. It is fast becoming one of the largest groups on his own campaign site!

Ironically his own social networking tools are being used to hold him accountable. Now THAT's change we can believe in.

• Link to the MyBarackObama.com group's community blog from your blog or website. The community blog has a list of letters from users, speaking out on why they think the decision to back the FISA compromise is wrong. Money talks

• Donate to one or more of the above groups of your choice, and/or Blue America's PAC vs Retroactive Immunity on Act Blue (which has over $325,000 raised and counting)!

• If you've decided not to donate to the Obama campaign (at least for the time being) because of this issue, let the campaign know. From the email list:

I would suggest that every member of this group contact the campaign today and let them know you will not be able to contribute any further funds if Senator Obama continues to support the FISA bill as written. They need to know that the little people can lay back as well as the big contributors.

• The same goes for your Senators and the Democratic National Committee (DNC). Tell them they'll get your donation when they stop letting our Bill of Rights get torched.
• Politicians listen to carrots and sticks. Donate only $5 to Senator Obama now, and while the campaign aide is taking your donation mention that his recent moves to the right have depressed your opinion of him and that you are likely to contribute the rest of your campaign dollars to the Green party or Ralph Nader this election cycle unless he stands up for what you believe in.
