Methodology:

  • most numbers are available directly from the links at the top of the relevant column.
  • the number of current subscribers is at the bottom of each email message to the group. does this include people receiving in digest form?
  • YouTube appears to update statistics every 30 minutes to two hours, with occasional inexplicable longer delays.

Historical statistics: number of members on myBO

For our first week, this was the most important number to track. The growth was consistenly over 40%/day, sometimes over 100%/day, until July 3, when the combination of the holiday weekend and email listserv problems slowed it substantially. We resumed growing by 1,000-2,000 people per day after the long weekend. Somewhere around1,000 and 2,000 members left the group on Wednesday, July 9, during and after the FISA vote.

Number of members (as reported by my.barackobama.com)

Methodology:
  • Numbers since June 30, 9 a.m., are as reported by my.barackobama.com from this page, which gives a member count for the group
  • Earlier numbers are estimates based on the statistics on early growth described here.

See Anti FISA bill group on my.barackobama.com reaches 2200 members by John Joseph Bachir on Obama Letdown Watch for more on the early growth of the group.

What other statistics would be good?

- number of digg hits for group's main page
- number of reddit comments
- number of links back to the group as shown by google web, news, and blog search
