Olbermann throwdownThis is a featured page

From email by Tony. Also, this is potentially a chance to get publicity for the group -- how best to do that? See the discussion thread on this page ...

Glenn Greenwald, a constitutional and civil rights lawyer, was very critical of Olbermann in Salon (read Keith Olbermann: Then and Now)(http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2008/06/26/olbermann/)
and Olbermann felt obliged to respond on Daily Kos (http://dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/6/26/222646/124/440/542648)
which was lame, and then Greenwald pointed out WHY it was so lame in Salon, here (http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2008/06/27/olbermann/index.html).

On Friday, Olbermann promised a special comment on FISA Monday to address why Obama can "have his cake and eat it too".
Well, Olbermann's viewing audience is about 500,000 people. I urge you to email countdown@msnbc.com and urge Olbermann to reverse field and condemn Obama's betrayal of the constitution and the fourth amendment. As Greenwald points out, Olbermann's hero and excuse is John Dean, who does not really support Olbermann's fantasy interpretation that Obama can prosecute the telecom's later.
In fact, consider that President Ford pardoned Nixon for any crimes Nixon may have committed, and it seems clear Bush will do the same for the telecoms. Obama has not mentioned a thing about criminal prosecution for the telecoms, and when President will certainly not challenge, in the Supreme Court, the constitutionality of Bush's pardon of the telecoms. Obama will say "It is time to turn the page and come together in unity for a common purpose," and ignore the issue, while enjoying the new power hegranted himself by betraying us.
Thus Olbermann's fantasy excuse is pure fiction and will never come to pass, and Obama's position means that we will never know the extent of the telecom spying or the results of it, and the future spying can continue unfettered throughout our lifetime.
Further, violating our fourth amendment rights gives the government material to embarrass or blackmail their opponents; so the next Bush-like President can suppress first-amendment rights with threats of scandal, prosecution, or character assassination.
Write to CountDown@msnbc.com and tell Olbermann that if he does not apologize for his lapse in judgment and give Obama the thrashing he deserves, he will have lost all credibility as an honest broker and that makes his show not worth watching. He might as well be FOX News.
Olbermann has apologized in the past and admitted bad reporting. He is sensitive to his ratings and has only recently edged out O'Reilly. If he thinks he is alienating a significant chunk of his audience, he will voice our concerns on national television.
If we tip Countdown, we can start a groundswell that tips Obama. Let Olbermann do the work of advertising our position on national television and start the wildfire that tips Obama. Obama has proven beyond doubt he is just another politician, so he will respond to pressure if we can create it.
Make no mistake, I voted for Obama and I donated $90 to his campaign that I could barely afford. I will vote for Obama in November. But we cannot just trust him to do what is good for us or we are no better than the 28% of Republicans that put their blind trust in Bush. We must push Obama to uphold the Constitution, deny HIMSELF the right to violate it, and keep his promise to filibuster the bill until it is dead. He needs to find his conscience and reconsider.
We have about 24 hours to influence the contentof Olbermann's Special Comment on Monday. Please read the Greenwald commentary and then email Countdown@MSNBC.com and be as harsh as you can on Olbermann's lapse in judgment.
Ladies and Gentlemen, TO YOUR KEYBOARDS!

It's a great opportunity to get coverage for the group. How can we get Greenwald and/or Olbermann to mention us, and maybe even put up a link?
