Inauguration adThis is a featured page

January 20: on the air in DC!

Thanks to all for your help.

Stay tuned for more!

Working with SaysMe, we'll be creating two cable TV ads that will be runnable for several months after the inaugration as well:

- the one on this page, congratulating President Obama and letting him know that we want to work with him to get FISA right. In addition to President Obama, our audience for this ad is our 23,000 members, the media, and other politicians -- in other words, people who already know what FISA is. The message is "this issue isn't going away ... and neither are we!"

- one for a broader audience, who may not be familiar with FISA, getting people to understand what the isue is and why it matters. We'll hold off on shooting this one until 2009. see Innocent Words, misinterpreted.

For more background on the ad and process, see here.

visuals: photos of Get FISA Right members scrolling across the screen, parchment image of the constitution in the background

voiceover:

0-5 seconds: Even though we disagreed with your position on FISA last July, we worked for your election victory ...
5-10: and are excited to be part of the change you're bringing to Washington.
11-15: We're ready to help, and look forward to working with you
16-20: to restore our Constitution and the rule of law.
21-25: Congratulations, President Obama. (cut to getFISAright.net) Please ... get FISA right.

JonPincus Discussion: the "hard-hitting" inauguration ad 2 Dec 20 2008, 1:55 PM EST by JonPincus
Thread started: Dec 10 2008, 10:31 AM EST  Watch
This is a more substantive ad that we'll be running around the country in the months following the inauguration, focused on changing minds. (More about the Inauguration ads at http://get-fisa-right.wetpaint.com/page/Inauguration+ad )

Some of the ideas that have been suggested so far:

* a conversation on the phone being wiretapped and the government misunderstanding. this helps deal with the reaction so many people have: "I don't have anything to hide!"

* possibly relate to Ft Dix terrorism trial [link and discussion on the main page]

* a 'rightsometer' showing where we are, where we were 8 years ago and where we should be [our goal]

* tie to Obama's own experience "In the office, bumbling Verizon employees, like creatures in a Harry Potter movie, are prying through the files, showing each other O's calling records, making snide comments about "O's ohs!", etc."

Thoughts on these? New ideas? Detailed suggestions for text and visuals?

JonPincus What's our goal for the ad? 8 Dec 16 2008, 4:38 PM EST by Anonymous

Off the top of my head, I'd say our goals are

1) to let President Obama know that we are still interested in continuing the discussion with him
2) to let our members know "hey, we're still here", and (by pointing them to the web site) encourage them to get involved, and
3) to start recruiting new members

What do others think?
