DRAFT! WORK IN PROGRESS!

November 4: We've moved the draft into a Google Doc for the time being. Once the time's right, we'll post it on our blog, ask other bloggers to repost it, and set up a petition site to let people sign on. Our goal here is two-fold: to pressure the Obama Administration, and to get the media to cover the story. Thanks to Sally, Nancy, Lois, Harry, Peter, Craig, Derrick, g, Sharon, Joan, Linda, Dawn, and Jim for feedback so far. Please share your perspectives in the threads at the bottom of the page or on the blog! -- Jon

Please keep it up. Don't have the energy to participate more actively atm, but I've been lurking and following.
I really think this issue is a good acid test for people of our outlook.

I remember hearing you talk about bringing the troops home and also of doing something about the job lossess to our people, now both are very important especially the jobs. Instead of removing jobs over seas, etc., it is time to put our people back to work, there is nothing better than a well paid job for everybody that will put good will out there. All people need to be self supporting and definitely includes the down and outers, the people who are suffering from lack of jobs and still trying very hard to support their families. It is time to end this mirage of war which only benefits the well to do and that eventually will come to an end when we nialate all countries. It is time to take care of our own country, first. The American people when you were running really thought that this was the change you were talking about and I would love to believe that it truly was. Bringing jobs to every community in the USA is definitely a priority and of course bringing our troops home is up there. We need to gather ourselves together and take back our Constitution as it was written for our country. It is the greatest way to go, it helps every person in the USA to know their President wants their constitutional rights restored in total. I am pretty old and have watched this country since the thirties, watched and wondered why. I ask you to not be for war anymore, we don't need it, we all need truth and honest all the way, thankyou very much - I know you understand.

MichaelGill The thing about free advice, you get what you pay for... 1 Nov 5 2009, 10:51 AM EST by JonPincus

I've missed or missed out on the conference calls so if this been there, done that please ignore. These are the questions I would ask myself: Who can we working with on the committee staff? What is the Chairman's position? If he's anti-, do we have a member who can be our champion? Who do we know at JoD? Do we know who is staffing this at DoJ? Do we know who the WH's point person is for this? Is it Legislative Affairs? NSC? CoS? Do we have the names of the reporters working this story? Are there advocacy groups who's collective brain we can pick? Is there anyone group/org/PAC that has the exact same goal? If they are better funded can we leverage our effort by offering our help in addition to doing what we are doing? That's off the top so If all these are obvious, then chalk it up to great minds thinking alike. I hope I'm wrong but I don't think any progress is going to come from the WH until they get HCR through. But hitting those congressmen on the committee with phone calls to their office is still the best way to ring their bell. Maybe you've already contacted the hometown papers editorial board in their districts to see how many we can get to write an editorial. "It will take an act of patriotism to fix the problems with the Patriot Act" Good Luck! I'm keeping my fingers crossed. @mgill006
