HarryWaisbren:
Hello to you too Jim!

Another thing of note is that currently, our combined statistics of signatures for our open letter are 617.

It was steadily rising following the tweetchat but fell off the map during the Thanksgiving break. We need to jumpstart it once again to really make it go viral, and should be able to with the right strategy.

hashtags other than Patriot #tlot, #c4l -- Top Libertarians on Twitter and Campaign For Liberty (Ron Paul's group)
Tuesday December 1, 200912:31Jim Babka
12:31
HarryWaisbren:
it is Jim, that's how we organize the tweetchat

Jon: worth organizing the privacy hashtag. Lot of privacy related people hang out. Hitting up more often.

Jon: worth setting up brainstorming just on email lists, encouraging poeple to discuss via email and moderating/letting discussions through could start some conversations too. Conversations on blog therad, brainstorming outreach, blogging as we do it to elt people know it's happening.
Tuesday December 1, 200912:31HarryWaisbren
12:32
HarryWaisbren:
Mark: I agree, amazed in the negative. Sent out our stuff to GFR lists on OFA, and there is a constitutioanl group and others that I regularly communicate with, gotten 2 people fed back from those sources now.
Tuesday December 1, 200912:32HarryWaisbren
12:33
HarryWaisbren:
Completely agree about engaging libertarian/conservative hashtags much more Jim!

We have typically been sending out tweets from @GetFISARight to #patriotact and relying on others to RT to other tags. We can coordinate it more, and have more concrete outreach to these groups as well.
Tuesday December 1, 200912:33HarryWaisbren
12:34
HarryWaisbren:
Jon: shortlist of targeting just one or two bloggers/reporters and going to wrok on them?

Harry: moving on to media discussion about who we can target?

Mark, here's the link to the media list Jon and Harry culled from last year's Letter roll-out: http://get-fisa-right.wetpaint.com/page/Media+Contact+List
Tuesday December 1, 200912:35Amy Ringenbach
12:35
HarryWaisbren:
Jim: only a handful of people who have been concenred about civil liberties of late. Even amongst progressive bloggers and commentators.

Jim: could get Greenwald to atlk about it, but talks about nothing but civil liberties. Would love to get Keith/Rachel, Amy Goodman
Tuesday December 1, 200912:35HarryWaisbren
12:38
HarryWaisbren:
Jon: Chris Bowers on open left.

Harry: not much otureach yet, but preparing. If we engage Specter/Sestak issue is when we get a lot of traction tehre too.

Amy: have made initial entreaties to Specter/Sestak, haven't persued. Waiting to 1,000. Can if that's what we wish.
Tuesday December 1, 200912:38HarryWaisbren
12:39
HarryWaisbren:
Jon: I can see both ways, trying to do more organic growth on numbers before outreach. Do we do someting else to get a surge?

harry: tweetchats designed to do that

Jon: low key outreach for people to write about tweetchat? Techpresident would be great ot hit on that, either Nancy or Micah.
Tuesday December 1, 200912:39HarryWaisbren
12:39
HarryWaisbren:
Jon: worht targeting Ari Melber, real busy on climate change. Maybe ask him for suggestions on who to hit.
Tuesday December 1, 200912:39HarryWaisbren
12:40
HarryWaisbren:
Jon: Harry, contact TechPresident folk, CC me, can also jump in and ask for other suggestions. Trying ot break logjam, get momentum, ask for help in terms of suggestions.
Tuesday December 1, 200912:40HarryWaisbren
12:40
HarryWaisbren:
Mark: if we had a headline of "somebody's life was ruined today because of a NSL" that is the kind of thing I believe would get a lot of media attention. Can put it into a call for action.
Tuesday December 1, 200912:40HarryWaisbren
12:42
HarryWaisbren:
Amy: I've been serious about that, not sure who in our circle is a repisotory for htat. If you get NSL letter, you can't talk about htat.

Harry: maybe time to try to engage Iraq Veterans Against the War. Know they are breakign the law, engaging in civil disobedience already.
Tuesday December 1, 200912:42HarryWaisbren
12:43
HarryWaisbren:
Mark: some headline, doesn't ned to be a NSL. Something tnagible will attract attention.
Tuesday December 1, 200912:43HarryWaisbren
12:44
HarryWaisbren:
Mark: we have to do that, no matter what. It's necessary, engine of hte thing. It just ocurred to me, maybe during his Cato conference there woudl be some anecdotal discussion, do you think
Tuesday December 1, 200912:44HarryWaisbren
12:44
HarryWaisbren:
Jim Burrows: should be watching Cato thing for anything that's a hook for this
Tuesday December 1, 200912:44HarryWaisbren
12:45
HarryWaisbren:
Maybe i-spy video Jon talked about?

No matter what, need to make this more tangible to people
Tuesday December 1, 200912:45HarryWaisbren
12:45
HarryWaisbren:
Mark: lots of signs in US, every couple of miles, report suspicious behavior. All over.
Tuesday December 1, 200912:45HarryWaisbren
12:47
HarryWaisbren:
Amy: redux of Tom Ridge yellow orange color coded charts
Tuesday December 1, 200912:47HarryWaisbren
12:48
HarryWaisbren:
Jon: interesting, in SC, talking to Mom's freinds, not political. hate flying, demeaning. Someone else going to different grocery store w/out frequent buyer cards.

Jon: people feel helpless, don't know what they can do.
Tuesday December 1, 200912:48HarryWaisbren
12:48
HarryWaisbren:
Mark: one anecdote we can get attention of media, get mroe people on teh social netwroks
Tuesday December 1, 200912:48HarryWaisbren
12:50
HarryWaisbren:
Not necessarilya bout 1 anecdote, bigger, about getting poeple to undresatnd this affecst their day to day life and what they can do about it.

Jon: good topic to engage poeple on email lists and FB group, asking if there are ways this is affecting your day to day life or anyone you know's day to day life

Jon: seen a few tweets about how bank account frozen by patriotact activity
Tuesday December 1, 200912:50HarryWaisbren
12:51
HarryWaisbren:
Jon: have favorited a few things of people saying these things. Idk if htey are patriot act related or not, have to dig in, but wondering if htere is more going on, this low level of frustration.

Jon: rather than look for big killer anecdotes, worth highlighting low level annoynace.

Amy Ringenbach:
What I can do, as I continue to roll this out to progressive groups via email, is to invite folks to share how they have been affected..
Tuesday December 1, 200912:51Amy Ringenbach
12:51
HarryWaisbren:
Mark: after call I'll post on various OFA lists askign that exact question. Outstanding idea.

Jon: put up a blog post on, fowrad to privacy coalition, ask their members for different way of thinking.
Tuesday December 1, 200912:51HarryWaisbren
12:53
HarryWaisbren:
Jon: massachusetts could be a great way to engage people on the email lists

Jim Burrows: i'm from MA
Tuesday December 1, 200912:53HarryWaisbren
12:54
HarryWaisbren:
Jon: I can get something up on FB.

harry: sent last message right after tweetchat of open letter

Jon: event for Cato, After that good time for another email

Harry: can work together, one engaging conversation other is starting
Tuesday December 1, 200912:54HarryWaisbren
12:54
HarryWaisbren:
Jon: great suggestion Jim, looking around at Sestak/specter, MA, where else we can find these local things and build local interest.
Tuesday December 1, 200912:54HarryWaisbren
12:56
HarryWaisbren:
Jim: mentioned Greenwald, how to engage. On his list of blogs he reads, if we get stuff into them that might be one thing. 2nd hting is above that is "open salon", worth someone trying to write a salon article on civil liberites/patriot act, signing this open letter to Obama, so someone is saying something in his neighborhood.

Harry: key is convincing him to link/promote us rather than being aware

HarryWaisbren:
Take care Korkie!

Jon: we can try picking osmeone and just really targeting them combined iwth twitter/email stuff. Can't hurt, and as we pitch to techpresident.

harry: question of when and how we pressure them to engage. After TP?

Jon: chicken/egg question

Harry: this tuesady is backstop, Who and how to engage with the poeple power we'll be bringing
Tuesday December 1, 200912:58HarryWaisbren
