Version #2: The long outline

  • Ask for the Senator's position on the FISA bill. The staffer at the other end of the line will be happy to tell you.
  • Ask for the Senator's position on the Dodd-Feingold-Leahy amendment.
    • This amendment removes telecom immunity from the FISA bill.
  • Ask for the Senator's position on the Bingaman amendment.
    • This amendment prevents Congress from granting the telecoms immunity until the investigation by the Inspectors General and the Department of Justice is complete.

  • Once you know their stand, tell them yours.

  • The FISA bill is dangerous.
    • It ensures the dismissal of all cases pending against the telecoms that facilitated the warrantless wiretapping programs over the last 7 years.
    • It permits only minimal court oversight.
    • It permits the government to continue surveillance programs even if an application is denied by the court.
    • Members of Congress not on Judiciary or Intelligence Committees are NOT guaranteed access to reports from the Attorney General, Director of National Intelligence, and Inspector General.
  • Please vote NO on the unamended FISA bill.
