January 15: change.org "top 10 ideas for America" voting closes
If a FISA- or wiretapping-related idea is in the top 10, it will be presented to the Obama Administration on January 20 along with the others. Change.org will then choose a non-profit sponsor and working with them launch a national campaign and "mobilize the collective energy of the millions of members of Change.org, MySpace, and partner organizations to ensure that each winning idea gets the full consideration of the Obama Administration and Members of Congress."
January 20: Obama inaugurated
  • Get FISA Right is planning a cable TV advertising campaign with SaysMe.tv. Details TBD.
  • There are likely to be multiple independent protests in DC -- on FISA and no doubt other issues
  • what else is being planned for/around inauguration? will there be ads in the Washington Post/NY Times etc.?

January 20 - May 1: Obama announces administration policy; Attorney General, special counsel, and/or Congress potentially begin hearings and investigations
  • See the Liberty and Security coalition's recommendations on Reform of the National Security Surveillance Laws and Procedures and the ACLU Transition Plan's First Hundred Days: Warrantless Wiretapping for detailed proposals, and EFF's What Obama Can and Should do to Stop Telecom Immunity for more details on immunity.
  • have any Senators or Representatives announced intent to hold hearings/propose investigations?
  • what activism campaigns are planned for this timeframe?
    • As a group of Obama supporters, Get FISA Right is uniquely positioned to continue our discussion with him by making suggestions here.
    • Strange Bedfellows and other bloggers could take the lead in a blogging campaign
    • BORDC and PCC could take the lead in organizing grassroots local protests -- and resolutions by local governments?
    • how do non-partisan organizations plan to get involved?

June 1-4: Computers, Freedom, and Privacy 2009 in Washington DC

July: Inspectors' General report on FISA Amendment Act due

December 31: sections 206 (business records) and 215 (roving wiretaps) of the PATRIOT Act expire, unless extended
